The Jackson County Historical Society's 2025 Heritage Day Events will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2025, running from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Maquoketa Fairgrounds, with activities centered in the Pearson Building and Janssen Hall. The day begins at 3:30 PM in the County Museum with a special program presented by Dennis and Alice Mans, who will speak on the lives and lasting contributions of two beloved Maquoketans, Dr. and Mrs. David Loose. Following the presentation, Dr. and Mrs. Loose will be formally inducted into the Jackson County Historical Society's Hall of Fame in recognition of their civic efforts.
The honorees, Dr. David Loose and his wife Francella, had a profound impact on the community. Dr. Loose was an accomplished physician and surgeon, who practiced for over 50 years and was known for operating the D. N. Loose Drug Store. His wife, Francella, was an influential educator who taught Latin at Maquoketa High School. Together, they were key figures in establishing the Maquoketa Free Public Library and the Jackson County Public Hospital.
Following the program, the annual Heritage Dinner will be held across the way in Janssen Hall. Serving begins at 4:00 PM and continues until 6:30 PM. The dinner, catered by Jeronimo's in Springbrook, offers a choice of beef, baked chicken, or ham, along with traditional sides like mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies, salads, dinner rolls, and dessert. Tickets are available for $15 in advance or $17 at the door. Those wishing for carry-out meals can call 563-249-1776 or 563-652-5020 to arrange their pickup. The entire event serves as an important fundraiser for the Historical Society, and a silent auction will also be held in Janssen Hall.
