We used to concede the day after Thanksgiving, often referred to as Black Friday, to the big box stores. Not anymore!
Once again, we’re banding together with small, locally owned businesses from across the country for Plaid Friday, an alternative shopping experience that focuses on promoting what makes our communities unique and special.
Whether you’re looking for holiday gifts or something for yourself, pop in, take a deep breath, and enjoy the season. Oh, and we’ll be offering treats and a few specials throughout the day, too!

Our biggest day of the year is almost here!
Join us on November 29 between 9am and 6pm for Small Business Saturday. This is your opportunity to demonstrate how important small, locally owned businesses are to you and the community. The shop will be overflowing with the latest books, naturally, along with quality sideline items such as candles, teas, journals, greeting cards, and even socks!
Don’t miss this opportunity to make a statement about how much you love your community and the small businesses that make Cedar Rapids a special place to call home.

For many, holiday shopping is a marathon, not a sprint. That’s why we’re here to help.
Whether or not you choose to enter the fray on Plaid Friday or Small Business Saturday, we’re offering another great opportunity to knock off a few more items on your gift list with our Small Business After Party on Sunday, November 30.
We’ll have a full selection of quality books and gift items for your consideration and sips + nibbles as you leisurely peruse the shop. We offer our friends and customers holiday shopping the way it is meant to be. Relaxing.

Next Page Books, founded on December 1, 2015, will celebrate 10 Years of Bookselling throughout the month of December with special events, promotions, and a good dose of holiday cheer.
The festivities begin on the first with Founders Day, a low-key event featuring a delicious cake from The Hangry Lady, followed by an anniversary party on the 6th (Saturday), Sunday Sips + Scones on the 7th, Ho Ho Ho in NewBo on the 11th (Thursday), and Catmas Chaos on the 14th (Sunday). More information about each of these events will soon follow.
On Monday through Friday, December 1 to 5, shoppers will receive ten percent off their most expensive book item, and prize drawings will be held all month long.

Ho Ho Ho in NewBo is back for its sixth year as Cedar Rapids’ premier shopping and dining destination celebrates the holiday season.
Most neighborhood shops will be open until 8pm on Thursday, December 11, offering sips, nibbles, or a special promotion, or two. Check with each participating business for their plans that evening. And consider making it a night by dining at one of the outstanding food establishments on Third Street or inside NewBo City Market.
Once again, the Washington High School Madrigals will stroll through the neighborhood singing carols and Goldfinch Cyclery and Roasters Coffeehouse will team up to offer free hot chocolate as they peddle their way through New Bohemia on lighted bicycles.
Those interested can play Whiteout Blizzard BINGO for sweet prize packages by picking up a playing card at any participating business, ask to have their card “stamped” before leaving each shop, and turn their completed card in at the bookstore by 8pm. The drawing will be held shortly thereafter and the winners contacted on Friday.
