Raising Spirits Mocktail Invitational
Cedar Rapids' first mocktail invitational happens October 13 from 5:00-7:30, featuring eight of the best mixologists competing for the Golden Glass inside CSPS Hall. Attendees get to sample all eight mocktails and vote for the best mixologist in the area. There will also be a full appetizer table catered by Groundswell Cafe. Miles Nielsen and the Rusted Hearts
Led by free-wheeling frontman Miles Nielsen, The Rusted Hearts have been wowing audiences for years with the diversity of their sound, the tightness of their 4-part harmonies, and the quality of their songcraft. Equally comfortable in a compact 3-minute pop song and an epic 10-minute jam, the band has toured incessantly since their inception in 2011, amassing an army of hardcore followers that have dubbed themselves the Rusted Herd. Their new album OHBAHOY finds the band venturing into a sphere of Americana that feels both familiar and excitingly new. Tight drums, rich guitar tones, gorgeous woodwinds, and sweeping harmonies provide the perfect complements to Nielsen's immense storytelling gifts and impeccable vocals. Adam Ezra Group
We don't see many artists building the kind of momentum Adam Ezra Group is generating right now. What has grown over more than two decades of relentless grassroots touring has become something far bigger than a typical touring band: a fiercely independent, fan-powered community that continues to expand one show at a time. Rooms across the country are selling out when Adam Ezra Group comes to town, with longtime fans regularly traveling across state lines to catch multiple shows, drawn by the band's deep sense of community and the promise that no two nights are ever the same. The band never performs from a fixed setlist, instead shaping each night around the energy in the room. Songs, stories, and moments unfold in real time - part concert, part revival, and part reminder of what live music can still be at its best. Blending folk/Americana soul, rock 'n' roll energy, and deeply human songwriting, Adam Ezra Group has built one of the most authentic underground followings in live music today while quickly becoming recognized on a national level. Every couple of months this group of misfits and wacky funsters gets together in a room...a Writers' Room in fact...and writes a series of original comedy sketches. (Okay, sometimes they're poignant and maybe even a little heart warming but we won't admit that.) Anyway, out of this secular conclave of tumultuous tom-foolery will grow 15-20 theatrical pieces that, when wed to the magic of SPT's raucous rock and roll, makes for an evening of live entertainment unlike any other in Eastern Iowa. The writers are, for the most part, also the actors in the show and are joined by guest actors, writers, musicians, poets, and dancers drawn from our ridiculously talented arts community throughout each season. David Wimbish & Jesse James Deconto
David Wimbish (The Collection) and Jesse James DeConto have been making music together for more than a decade, since David recorded trumpet on Jesse’s second full-length back in 2013. In 2025, David acted as producer for a third album with Jesse’s songwriting outlet, The Pinkerton Raid, titled IF YOU LOVE SOMEBODY, TELL THEM, due out October 2. David will release his self-produced album HEAVY LOVE with Nettwerk Music Group on November 13. As touring singer-songwriters and bandleaders, they’ve played separately on Midwestern stages from Summerfest to Mile of Music to Schuba’s and Beat Kitchen. Mostly, they’ve been each other’s big fans, crossing paths and cheering each other on at SXSW, Wild Goose Festival and The Collection’s own Soil & Sky Fest in NC. In 2026, for the first time, David & Jesse have been hitting the road together, each bringing a unique spin on their intimate storytelling, singing and playing toward hope and healing. Jesse will be supporting David on some of his first US tour dates since reimagining his career as a solo artist after a decade and four full-length albums with The Collection. His songs have flowed from therapeutic conversations with guitar or piano, through boisterous festival stages with a six-piece band, and now back to the most intimate foundations of his Appalachian indie folk-pop. AMERICANA HIGHWAYS describes Jesse’s music as “Beatles-esque dreamy folk (that) simultaneously plumbs the depths of the state of both the world and the human heart.” There will be laughter, and probably tears, as two friends share songs imagining a better world and better selves, in search of solidarity with other souls in all their suffering and joy. 2026-08-26 21:00:00 -0500

RTC Theatre: Cameron Sullenberger Overture Series
Revival Theatre Company’s Cameron Sullenberger Overture Series is a new annual event that raises funds for RTC programs and educational offerings. This new series was developed in memory of our co-founder and musical director Cameron Sullenberger, who passed away in February 2023 during a rehearsal for our first show of 2023. Cameron was passionate about singers and musicians, and this series reflects those interests. The new annual event will bring together the area’s best in the musical theatre and classic Broadway scores or intimate solo concerts — for a one-night-only event. The fourth annual Cameron Sullenberger Overture Series Gala will feature 8-time Broadway actress Elena Shadow. Last seen on Broadway in The Visit with Chita Rivera, Elena was prominently featured as Sister Sophia in NBC's The Sound of Music Live! starring Carrie Underwood. She originated the role of Francesca Johnson to critical acclaim in the pre-Broadway production of The Bridges of Madison County and starred as Anne Dindon in the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of La Cage Aux Folles. Other Broadway: The Woman in White, Fiddler on the Roof, Nine, Sweet Smell of Success, and Les Miserables. Off Broadway: Fanny at City Center Encores! and The Bacchae at The Delacorte Theater.
