Mercy Medical Center and Alliant Energy invite the community to the Power of Pink event on Thurs., Oct. 1, to help kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This free, family-friendly event is dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Beginning with the Power of Pink event and continuing throughout October, Mercy’s Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, hospital entrances and key campus locations will be illuminated in pink – a colorful, visible reminder of the continued fight against breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Thanks to Alliant Energy, community members can light the night pink, too. Guests may pick up a free pink energy-saving light bulb, while supplies last, and switch out a porch light to remind the women on their street to get screened for breast cancer. This simple act could save a life. That’s the Power of Pink!
Power of Pink highlights:
• 4 to 7 p.m.: Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer packet pick-up
• Music by Alisabeth Von Presley
• Free pink energy-saving light bulbs from Alliant Energy and pink frosting from General Mills will be available while supplies last.
• Refreshments
• 7:15 p.m.: The program begins, followed by an illumination ceremony and laser light show
Guests are encouraged to wear pink or their EFY race shirts from past events to show support and solidarity.
