"I chose to survive," Melissa Etheridge sings on "Being Alive," the powerful, exuberant opening song of the Academy Award and Grammy Award winning artist's 17th studio album, Rise. She then takes a pause, the flurry of her guitar and her bandmates' boisterous sounds fading out, before she practically shouts, with unbridled joy: "God I love being alive! "The words say so much. But in that pause — just a few seconds long — it's as if she's looking at everything that has happened in her life in the time since she last released an album of new material, 2019's The Medicine Show, and with it everything that is to come on this remarkable, emotional mosaic of songs. And it's a lot. Co-produced by Etheridge and Shooter Jennings (whose production credits include Brandi Carlisle, Tanya Tucker, Charlie Crockett and, of course, his father Waylon Jennings) and featuring her sharp band of guitarist and keyboard player Max Hart, drummer Eric Gardner and bassist Erik Kertes, Rise soars as an intimate and richly realized collection. At turns it's celebratory and playful, as in the explosive "Don't You Want a Woman" (picked as the official rally song of the Kansas City Current professional women's soccer team) and "Tomboy" (reclaiming the term as a badge of pride), both punctuated by Etheridge's hearty laugh. There's "Matches," a frisky ode to the guitars that sparked her musical passion as a kid, steeped in the spirit of childhood hero Johnny Cash. There's the lusty honky-tonker "Davina," its singalong chorus sounding as if it could have been recorded in a raucous saloon. And there's "If You Ever Leave Me," which starts with Etheridge cruising down Melrose in the '80s after first arriving in L.A., but goes on to glory in her marriage with Linda Wallem. "If you ever leave me, I'm coming too," she sings, with another burst of laughter. At others it's contemplative, most profoundly and movingly in "Call You," her deeply affecting account of living in the wake of the opioid death of her son, Beckett, in 2021. In it she looks deep in her soul and cherishes the strengthening embrace of family, friends and community. This also filters through "The Other Side of Blue," a light-in-the darkness anthem co-written and co-sung with Chris Stapleton. And at the end of the album she shines in the warmth of "More Love," written for and sung at her daughter Bailey's wedding last fall. Ultimately, it's an album of acceptance and resilience. Don't miss iconic country music star Sammy Kershaw at Riverside Casino & Golf Resort! Often referred to as the "heir apparent" to legendary 'voice' George Jones, the GRAMMY nominated performer helped shape and make the '90s a shining decade for country music. In addition to performing to sell-out audiences, Sammy Kershaw continues to record and release new music with three albums currently in the works, along with putting the finishing touches on his long-awaited autobiography - which promises to be as juicy as a bowl of the gumbo he loves to prepare in his Louisiana home! Don't miss Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band in the Event Center at Riverside Casino & Golf Resort! Thirty years ago, a Fender Strat-wielding teenager from Shreveport, Louisiana by the name of Kenny Wayne Shepherd brought the blues back to the mainstream. It was 1995, the era of furrow-browed grungesters, when a sandy-haired guitar prodigy unapologetically celebrated a genre often pushed to the margins. With his fiery fretwork, pop-rock hooks, and reverence for the blues, Shepherd's arrival was a much-needed palette-cleanser from the existential dread of the times. Now, three decades later, Shepherd is as vital as ever. No longer the child prodigy, he has ascended to master. Still touring, recording, collaborating, and evolving, he's returned to where it all began, Ledbetter Heights. Shepherd's latest is a re-recording of his landmark first album, in honor of its 30th anniversary. In early 2026, he and his band will launch a national tour celebrating the milestone's anniversary. "This is the album that put me on the map, and I still enjoy listening to it because my goal has always been to make music I want to listen to," Shepherd says. "Unfiltered and straight from the heart." That wanderlust was evident on Ledbetter Heights, and Shepherd revisits the 12-song collection with gusto on this faithful re-recording. The perceivable differences between the albums are a refined musicality evident in the arrangements, and the more nuanced and intentional guitar playing, though the fire still rages - check out the bluesy bluster on the opener, "Born with a Broken Heart." Only one track, "Riverside," deviates significantly. Slowed down and smokier, it brings a quiet fire vibe not found in the 1995 version. In addition, fans will no doubt enjoy hearing longtime Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band co-vocalist Noah Hunt sing these songs. Noah has been with Shepherd for 28 years and has sung on every other album. This completes the sonic circle. He named the album Ledbetter Heights in honor of an historic neighborhood in his hometown that pays homage to another blues great and Northwest Louisiana native, Huddie Ledbetter. The album catapulted Shepherd into the mainstream, and as a torchbearer of the blues - something he continues to take very seriously to this day. "When I signed my first record deal, my mission was no matter how big or small my career became, I was going to spread the word about the music and musicians that inspire me," Shepherd says. He's made good on that promise with the release of his award-winning documentary "10 Days Out; Blues From the Backroads, scorching appearances on the Experience Hendrix tour, film placements like Flight Risk, and collaborations that bring the genre into new spaces. Shepherd has become one of the blues' most consistent and credible ambassadors. Up next, Shepherd and his band will be hitting the road for the Ledbetter Heights 30th Anniversary Tour. The shows will include a performance of the full 12-track album, along with another set featuring highlights from his 30-year career. "Revisiting this album put me back in touch with the wonder and excitement of those days. I didn't know what lay ahead," he reflects. Over their first 28 years as the band HANSON, brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson have made a significant mark in music. Starting in 1992, they spent their first five years building a fanbase as an independent band in Tulsa, OK. After signing a record deal, they saw a meteoric rise with the 1997 international smash single "MMMBop" from their debut album Middle Of Nowhere followed by consecutive top 40 singles. A long line of hits, 5 more studio albums, multiple Grammy nominations and over 16 million album sales followed. Over their second decade, the band charted their own course, running an independent label while maintaining a coveted connection with their global fanbase. In 2007, they launched a grassroots campaign to support poverty and HIV/AIDS relief in Africa.
