Join Donald Quintana, a professional conservation visual storyteller, for an immersive one-day workshop on the art of visual storytelling at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha). Learn how to capture the seven essential images that bring a story to life and create a lasting impact. Through hands-on instruction, group discussions and in-the-field practice, we’ll develop the skills to craft compelling narratives—using any camera we have, whether a professional DSLR or just a phone. Whether you're a journalist, social media creator or passionate photographer, this workshop will help you tell more engaging, meaningful stories. Go beyond snapshots—create images that inspire, connect and captivate! Donald Quintana is a passionate nature and wildlife photographer, formerly based in Los Osos, California, and now residing in Cedar Rapids. A self-taught photographer with a formal background in art and design, he combines artistic vision with a deep appreciation for the natural world, capturing fleeting moments often missed by the casual observer. Since taking first place in his first photography contest in 2007, Donald has pursued his craft full-time, earning multiple accolades, including an Audubon Photography Award, a Nature’s Best Photography win and recognition in North American Nature Photography Association’s (NANPA) prestigious Expressions annual. His work has been widely published in magazines, books and conservation media. An active member of NANPA, he has contributed to various photography organizations and mentorship programs. Certified as a California Naturalist, Donald continues to share his passion for conservation storytelling through his photography and guided tours. The cost of this day-long workshop is $135 (or add Friday lodging for another $70). For more information or to register, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.
