Event Description

The Orphan Train movement, lasting from 1854-1929, relocated approximately 250,000 children from crowded Eastern cities to rural homes in the Midwest. Founded by Charles Loring Brace and the Children's Aid Society, the program aimed to address the plight of impoverished and homeless children, particularly in New York City. They sought to place them in rural homes where they could be adopted and provided for.
