Event Description

Opening Reception, Friday, October 24, 5:00- 7:00 pm Sinclair galleries, Saturday October 25-November 21, open daily 4:00- 6:00 pm ... Jeremy Chen, Object Rituals, Kocher Visiting Artist Jeremy Chen is an artist and educator who grew up in Iowa City. He holds an MFA in Printmaking with a Sculpture concentration from the University of Iowa as well as a Book Arts Certificate from the UI Center for the Book. He currently teaches print media, sculpture, and drawing at Grinnell College where he is an Associate Professor of Art and past chair of American Studies. Chen’s work is often improvisational. Improvisation is attractive because it forces and enhances diverse paths that are unfixed. Improvisation affords experimentation, possibility, contingency, uncertainty, and potency, even if it risks epic failure and embarrassment. He envies the savvy of poetic tricksters and jesters with their mysterious and unpredictable routes to making and/or breaking meaning as he attempts to make sense and break sense as an artist working across media. ... Brittany Brooke Crow, what is seen and what is not Brittany Brooke Crow uses image-making to confront her fear of vulnerability while exploring intimacy, ways of seeing, and the expansive possibilities of creating photo-based art. In 2020, Crow received an Iowa Arts Council Art Project Grant to support the creation of the photographic installation Exhibition(ist). One year later, Crow was named an Iowa Arts Council Artist Fellow. In addition to her arts practice, Crow provides photographic services for individual artists, arts institutions, musicians, non-profit organizations, and small businesses. Notable clients include the Des Moines Art Center, the Iowa Arts Council, Iowa Public Radio, Mainframe Studios and Little Village Magazine.
