Event Description
55+ Maple Syruping Experience: Discover the sweet tradition of maple syruping! Learn how easy it is to tap maple trees and turn sap into delicious syrup. Explore the science behind syrup making, including weather conditions, tree physiology, and the chemistry of the process. Step back in time to uncover the history of maple syruping—from Native American techniques to pioneer methods and modern-day practices. Try your hand at using the sugar maker’s tools to tap a tree, then visit the Sugar House to see firsthand how sap transforms into syrup. A fun and educational experience topped off with a tasting of the harvest! This off-site event, co-sponsored with Indian Creek Nature Center and Bridge to Opportunities, will be held at the Indian Creek Nature Center’s Barn, 6665 Otis Rd SE, Cedar Rapids.
Bridge to Opportunities meets at 2100 1st Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, directly across from Cottage Grove Place and Cottage Grove Ave. (This is Refugee City Church, the former Four Oaks building.) Parking and entrance, including a handicap ramp are at the back of the building.
